Together in Strength

Sweethearts for many years, they are happy together, but far away from their hometowns in Texas. They have been through a lot at their young age, including health problems more difficult than many people will ever face in their lives. I can't help but admire their courage and strength.

50 years together

50 years. That's how many years Linda and David have been married. I absolutely love sessions like this, and I've been blessed with many these past two years. I wouldn't mind doing them every week.  I think we can all learn a thing or two (and much more) from couples who have been married, and are still happy for this many years.

Linda and David love to travel. I loved hearing stories of their travels to places all over the world. I'm not sure what I would have done if I was sleeping in a tent in Africa, and heard a lion roar right outside the tent flaps. They can tell you what they did. Then there were the stories of hot air balloon rides, safaris, and beautiful tropical beaches. I have to admit I'm a little jealous. Now I know what I want to do in retirement.

For Better or For Worse

Everyone has a story, and it's my job to tell their story through images. When Heather first called me I was struck by her story.  She speaks eloquently about how much she loves her husband, and what a difficult time they've had in the past year. Her husband had a terrible accident that left him in a coma for a long period of time, followed by a long and arduous healing process. Heather told me about the difficult recovery he's had and how much their lives have changed because of the accident.

I am so impressed by how devoted she is to her husband. Her words, "I just love my husband so much, and I want pictures of us together and happy after such a hard year." I hope we succeeded in capturing their story in the same place they had their wedding dinner when they got married.

Family

If you're like me you love your family, but they can make you crazy sometimes. I live one mile away from both my parents and my in-laws, and in the other direction one mile away is my sister. My kids go to school with their cousins. We are a close family, and I love it that way. We've thought about moving away, but they are what keep us here, solidly here. The chaos of family gatherings with a dozen children, birthdays every couple of weeks, soccer games, school plays, and trick or treating together is how we live. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love photographing extended families. I feel right at home with them in all the organized chaos. This family was a treat to meet and photograph one beautiful summer day early in the morning. I was impressed they could all get ready and looking so amazing at such an early hour.

They were all together from out of town to celebrate the 37th anniversary of their parents and some really big birthdays. Families who vacation together make memories that last a lifetime, and hiring a photographer to document their time here in California is a fabulous idea if I do say so myself, although I might be a little biased.
